Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per chevron abased Azure (Teal Blue) and Argent, a chief dancett of two enhanced of the last the apexes surmounted by two roundels of the first counterchanged, and in base a sphinx rampant. Attached below the shield a Silver scroll inscribed "OCULI CULTUS SECRETI" in Black letters.

Symbolism
The colors, white and teal blue, symbolize the battalion's former status as an unassigned-to-branch unit. The battalion's numerical designation and mission are suggested by two roundels or lenses directing their gaze downward. The sphinx is representative of the intelligence mission. Black alludes to the coat of arms of the Old Rhineland District of Pfalz in Germany where the unit was activated.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 2d Air Reconnaissance Support Battalion on 1 May 1962. It was redesignated on 24 October 1963, for the 2d Military Intelligence Battalion.

The scimitars denote military readiness and the unit's campaign participation in Southwest Asia (Saudi Arabia and Kuwait); while the scimitar and sheath alludes to "Cease Fire," suspending the battle to strive for peace. The heraldic rose, an ancient symbol of secrecy, represents the unit's mission. Scarlet signifies valor, also, indicating the Meritorious Unit Commendation awarded to the unit for service in Southwest Asia.

Background
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 2d Air Reconnaissance Support Battalion on 1 May 1962. It was redesignated for the 2d Military Intelligence Battalion on 24 October 1963. The coat of arms was amended to include a crest on 24 February 2004.
